Introduction |
Crystal Quest, www.Crystalquest.com , are a water filtration and purification devices predominately designed for home and commercial uses. They have both chemical and non chemical based water filtration/purification products. The AquaSafeStraw that has been specifically specifically designed for travelling, hiking and disaster situations. The AquaSafeStraw is safe for all to use, irrespective of health conditions, known and unknown, due to its chemical free filtration system. For the purpose of comparison, we are looking at AquaSaf eStraw against the Crystal Quest’s Camping/Travelling water filter. |
Filtration Methods |
The Crystal Quest Travel Filter uses a four stage process to filter water. Starting with 1 micron membrane pre filter, followed by an Ion Exchange resign (KFD 55 and KFD 85), then a granulated activated carbon, and lastly another 1 micron membrane filter. |
Reliability and state of mind |
Both the Crystal Quest and AquaSafeStraw have past extensive testing to verify their specification when the product is in prime condition |
Cost per gallon/litre |
Crystal Quest Travel costs $65 per unit and can filter for 18,900 litres (5000 gallons). That’s an economical $0.03 per litre. AquaSafeStraw is 7 cents /litre or 26.5 cents per gallon. |
Portability |
AquaSafeStraw is light weight (24g), 21cm long unit, 1.8cm diameter. The product can fit in your pocket. |
Multi-part |
The Crystal Quest products require some type of assembly and/or preparation then dismantling each time you want to use the product. |
Speed to access of water |
The time to obtain water from all the Crystal Quest products is significant as you need to connect to it to a tap. Should a tap be available? The connection of the units would take at least 5 minutes to assemble. |
Bacteria and Virus removal properties |
Crystal Quest products remove everything larger than 1 micron. Giardia and Cryptosporidium Cysts size start from 1 micron, have been shown to also be smaller in size. America’s Centre of Disease Control and prevention (www.cdc.gov) recommendation of filters to a minimum of 1 micron. |
