In fact, many countries don’t even have a legally enforceable set of drinking water standards. Instead, governments opt for a set of recommendations by which they would like water suppliers to comply with. Different countries allow different levels of contaminants in the water.

One cannot rely on a particular area’s drinking water standards to ensure safe drinking. Although drinking water standards can’t offer you specific security about what is in the water, they can offer a guideline.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.9.0″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.5.5″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.5.7″ _module_preset=”default” text_text_color=”#000000″ custom_margin=”|||0px|false|false” custom_padding=”10px|40px|10px|40px|false|false” border_width_all=”2px” border_color_all=”#0b36c4″ box_shadow_style=”preset6″ box_shadow_color=”#0b36c4″]

Did you know their is about 1,500 km3 wastewater annually that is six times more
than the total water of all the rivers in the world

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https://sureaqua.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Standards.jpg” alt=”Water Standards” title_text=”Standards” align=”center” _builder_version=”4.5.7″ _module_preset=”default”][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”4.5.6″ _module_preset=”default” background_enable_image=”off” parallax=”on” custom_margin=”0px||0px||false|false” custom_padding=”0px||0px||false|false”][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.9.0″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.5.2″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.5.7″ _module_preset=”default”]

A Maze of Laws and Guidelines with Few Legally Enforceable Requirements

In the United States, the federal law regarding drinking water standards is the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). These regulations consist of Maximum Contaminant Levels, which regulate how much of any particular contaminant can be present in the water supply at any one time, and Maximum Contaminant Level Goals, which aren’t legally enforceable but provide an indication of the level of contamination the EPA aims to have.

Although the SDWA covers all the public water systems, there are no drinking water standards for bottled water or private wells.

However, it gets even more complicated. The SDWA provides a blanket federal law, but then each State applies its drinking water standards with varying stringency.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.9.0″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.5.2″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_image src=”https://sureaqua.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Survival-Banner-392-72-Basic-Its-better-to-sure-200727-scaled.jpg” title_text=”Survival Banner 392 72 Basic-Its better to sure 200727″ url=”https://sureaqua.com/shop-now/” _builder_version=”4.5.5″ _module_preset=”default”][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.9.0″ _module_preset=”default” custom_margin=”10px||||false|false”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.5.2″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_text ul_item_indent=”60px” admin_label=”How do you catch it?” module_class=”icon_list icon_check” _builder_version=”4.5.7″ _module_preset=”default” ul_line_height=”1.7em”]

Europe has a different set of rules. The European Union (EU) has set up a Drinking Water Directive (DWD), which supplies a blanket set drinking water standards for all Member States.
