Alkaline water is a cart-before-the-horse product. The basic process for making it, electrolysis, was discovered by the ground-breaking scientist Michael Faraday more than 100 years before anyone knew what alkaline water was and why it was important for health. A mysterious people who lived very long and healthy lives high in the glacial Himalayas provided some answers.

Could Drinking the Right Water be the Secret to a Long Life?

The search for the “water of longevity” led Nobel Prize winner Dr. Henri Coanda, to conclude in the 1930s that the reason that the Himalayan Hunza people were the longest-lived people in the world was because of their unique water. The Hunza not only lived longer than anyone else, but they were able to have children at older ages than other people and did not seem to develop cavities, degenerative diseases, or cancer.

Duplicating Hunza water was one of those easier-said-than-done projects. It was born in the high alkaline terrain of the towering mountains and glaciers. Among other unique properties, this alkaline water had an active hydrogen property and contained many colloidal minerals. Could ordinary water be changed so that it would have the same life-giving properties as Hunza water?

What are the Benefits of Alkaline Water?

Alkaline water is believed to be helpful in the prevention or reversal of many health issues, including the following:

“A year today since my last hiking holiday in Argentina, I still remember how my portable water filter saved me from diarrhea while all my friends fell sick, keeping full-time guard at the toilet.”

William Mahoney, Southampton

  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Better circulation
  • Osteoporosis
  • Hyper-acidity
  • Obesity
  • Chronic fatigue
  • The common cold
  • Aching muscles from exercising
  • Body odor
  • Faster healing
  • Hangovers

That’s only a partial list of the benefits that someone may experience when their body’s pH is what it should be. When someone is at their optimum health level, they experience fewer health issues overall.

The Japanese Government Confirmed the Benefits of Drinking Alkaline Water

The Japanese developed the first water ionizer in the 1950s, based upon the work of Michael Faraday and research in Russia; they produced alkaline water and alkaline ionic water. Japanese scientists at agricultural universities initially studied the effects of their alkaline ionic water on plants and animals, but it took some time to discover the effects on people.

Eventually, Japanese doctors confirmed that alkaline water was not only non-toxic but beneficial in curing some diseases. In 1966, the Japanese Government approved alkaline ionic water ionizers as legitimate methods for improving people’s health, followed by South Korea in 1985.

Magical, Mysterious Tourmaline – The Healthy Gemstone

It has been found that tourmaline pellets can be used to produce excellent alkaline water. Tourmaline is a color-changing, semi-precious gemstone well-known for its ability to aid the body in removing toxins. This gem has unique electrical properties, becoming its own source of an electrical charge and naturally producing mild, alkaline water.

Some of the benefits of tourmaline include:

  • Detoxification properties are important because studies have shown that there is a direct link between bodily toxins and many chronic diseases
  • Benefits to the immune system and circulation
  • Helping both human and plant metabolisms to become more active
  • Anti-bacterial and deodorant properties
  • Stress relief
  • Improved mental clarity and alertness

“My husband and I shared his Sure Aqua portable water bottle when we went for a hiking trip in the Rocky Mountains last year. We always had fresh water.”

Malissa and Dave, Pierre, South Dakota

“I have gone for a hiking trip every year, and one thing I have learned over time is the importance of a portable water purifier.”

Scott, Boston

How Important is pH to health?

Anyone who ever kept tropical fish is familiar with testing the pH of the water in the fish tank. If the pH of the water gets too acid or too alkaline, the fish will die. That’s how important pH is to living organisms. Plants, animals, and people are all healthier when their internal pH is at the correct balance.

The human body should be at a pH of 7.4, mildly alkaline. Acid is below 7,  7 is neutral, and above 7 is alkaline on the pH scale. Anyone can purchase an inexpensive pH test kit online or at the drug store to test their own pH.

Acidic pH and illness

When someone’s pH is 7.4, their body can use vitamins and minerals more efficiently. The small intestine develops mucus at low acidity levels, which prevents the body from absorbing these crucial vitamins and minerals.

The human body functions best when the body’s pH is alkaline. Alkaline water helps your body to achieve its correct pH. When people become ill or have chronic diseases, they often test as too acid. It’s unclear as to whether the acidity caused the illness or the illness caused the acidity. Whichever is the case, restoring alkalinity to the body is essential for restoring health to the body.

What is Acidosis?

Too much acid in the body is known as acidosis. In healthy people, the kidneys and lungs work to keep pH in balance, but many factors can cause excess acid in the body.

  • Respiratory acidosis occurs when the lungs can’t remove enough CO2 from the body. This can happen for many reasons, such as a respiratory problem like asthma, obesity, or a chest injury.
  • Metabolic acidosis is the result of the kidneys not being able to get rid of enough acid. People with diabetes who don’t control their disease may develop this condition. Too much lactic acid or too little sodium bicarbonate can also cause metabolic acidosis.

“Never again will I leave my portable water filter behind after I spent a straight 5 hours in a toilet in India.”

Christina, Wellington

“Took the GoFreshWater pump on a Scout Hike with 15 boys and girls. It was so good not to carry so much water. The scouts are only allowed to carry 20% of their body weight.  Not much! It was great, so the kids were able to carry food and tents rather than lbs of water.”

George P, Westmead, Scout Leader

Cancer and an Acid pH

There has been considerable research investigating whether there is a link between cancer and high acid levels in the body. It’s not yet conclusive as to exactly how acid pH and cancer are connected. Since the 1930s, alkaline or pH therapy has been considered an alternative approach to cancer treatment. The theory is simple. Cancer cells can only grow and spread at a pH between 6.5 and 7.5. Changing the pH to a level that the cancer cells cannot tolerate can theoretically halt cancer growth or eliminate it completely.
